Privacy Policy
Lawn is operated by Unbeatable Products B.V., a company based in the Netherlands. In this policy, "we", "our", and "us" refer to Unbeatable Products B.V.. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it.
What Lawn Does
Lawn is a macOS application that helps you run self-hosted software on your Mac using containers. Your apps, data, and configuration live on your Mac. We do not track which apps you install, run, or remove.
No account is required to get started, but some features — including Pro — require one. With an account, you can optionally use Lawn Cloud for features like syncing, remote access, and dashboards. When you use Lawn Cloud, we process the data necessary to provide those features (such as app status and configuration) on our servers.
If you use Lawn without an account, the only data that leaves your device is the anonymous analytics and crash reporting described below. If you create an account, we also collect the account data described in the next section.
We Do Not Sell Your Data
We do not sell your personal data or share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We will not share your data with advertisers or advertising platforms without your consent. You can manage your marketing preferences in your account settings at any time.
Data We Collect
Account Data
You can optionally create an account. Pro subscribers must create one. When you create an account, we collect:
- Your email address
- Account creation date
- Subscription status and history
We use this data to identify you, provide account-based features, and communicate about your account. If you subscribe to Pro, your email address is also shared with our payment provider to process your subscription.
Providing your personal data is not a legal requirement. Creating an account is voluntary — if you choose not to, you can still use Lawn but will not have access to features that require an account (including Pro). If you use Lawn without an account, we do not collect any personal information.
Analytics (TelemetryDeck)
We use TelemetryDeck to collect anonymous usage analytics. This helps us understand how people use Lawn so we can improve the app. TelemetryDeck is privacy-focused and does not track individual users. You can review TelemetryDeck's privacy policy.
We collect:
- App version and macOS version
- Device type (e.g., MacBook Pro, Mac mini)
- General feature usage (which screens are viewed, which actions are taken)
- App launch and session duration
Analytics do not include your email address or any information from your account. We also do not collect:
- IP addresses
- Names of apps you install or run
- Contents of your containers or data
Crash Reporting (Sentry)
We use Sentry to collect crash reports and error logs. When the app crashes or encounters an error, we receive diagnostic information to help us fix bugs. You can review Sentry's privacy policy.
Crash reports may include:
- Stack traces and error messages
- App version and macOS version
- Device type and memory usage
- Steps leading to the crash (breadcrumbs)
Crash reports do not include:
- Personal information
- Contents of your containers or files
- Screenshots or screen recordings
Sub-Processors
We use the following third-party services (sub-processors) to process data on our behalf:
- TelemetryDeck — anonymous usage analytics
- Sentry — crash reporting and error tracking
- Paddle.com Market Limited — payment processing, invoicing, and tax collection (Pro subscribers only)
We do not use any data brokerage services. If you consent to marketing use of your data, we may share it with advertising platforms to promote Lawn (for example, to find similar audiences). Any such platforms will be listed here as sub-processors before processing begins.
Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
As a Netherlands-based company, we process data under the following legal bases:
- Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) — Account data and subscription management. This processing is necessary to provide the services associated with your account.
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — Anonymous analytics (TelemetryDeck) and crash reports (Sentry) to improve the reliability and usability of Lawn. Because this data is anonymous, the impact on your privacy is minimal.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — Marketing use of your account data (for example, sharing your email with advertising platforms to find similar audiences). This requires your explicit opt-in, either during account creation or in your account settings. The marketing opt-in is separate from agreeing to our Terms and Privacy Policy — your account is created regardless of your choice. You can withdraw your consent at any time in your account settings, and withdrawal is effective immediately.
You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interest. To do so, contact us at lawn@unbeatable.software.
International Data Transfers
TelemetryDeck, Sentry, and Paddle may process data outside the European Economic Area. These transfers are governed by each provider's own safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and participation in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF) where applicable. See their respective privacy policies linked above for details.
Third-Party Apps
Important: The apps you install through Lawn are third-party software developed independently. Lawn acts as a platform for installing and running these apps — each app is governed by its own license and privacy policy. We are not the data controller for data processed by third-party apps running in your containers.
These apps may have their own telemetry, analytics, update checks, or cloud features that send data over the internet. Lawn has no control over what these apps do with your data. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any app you install. If an app's data practices concern you, you can block its network access using your firewall or simply not install it.
Data Retention
- Account data: Retained while your account is active. After account deletion, retained for 6 months to resolve disputes, then deleted unless required by law.
- Analytics: Aggregated data is retained indefinitely. No individual user data is stored.
- Crash Reports: Retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted.
Data Security
We use commercially reasonable measures to protect the data we process. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we limit data collection to the minimum necessary and rely on privacy-focused providers.
Your Rights
Users without an account: Lawn collects only anonymous analytics and crash data. We do not hold personal data that can be tied back to you. You still have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interest and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
Users with an account: Because we hold your email address and account data, you have full rights under the GDPR and similar laws, including:
- Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR) — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR) — Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
- Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR) — Request deletion of your personal data.
- Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) — Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR) — Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Right to lodge a complaint — File a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority if you are in the EEA.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at lawn@unbeatable.software. We will respond within 30 days.
